The hinge assembly and its tension or counterbalance spring, which carries the weight of a heavy insulated door and holds it closed against the gasket.
How it fails
The spring loses tension and the door sags. A sagging door no longer compresses the gasket evenly, so the oven leaks heat along the top edge — and a new gasket fitted to a sagging door will leak too. Hinge pins also wear oval, which gives the same result.
